Sprinkles Gelato Southampton

Sprinkles Gelato

This week we couldn't resist another visit to Sprinkles.  This time we went to Southampton so that we could comment on a different restaurant. It is a real guilty pleasure and please don't expect to eat anything else that day.  Jan chose the White Chocolate Sensation as she loved the look of mine last time and she was not disappointed. She had it with whipped vanilla ice cream.

To make a change I chose the Peanut Butter with Chocolate sauce and M&Ms. Lovely, but it beat me, I could only eat half of it. I had it with Pistachio ice cream.

Take a look at the full menu. We went quite early so it was relatively quiet then but apparently it gets very busy later with queueing to get in.  Remember they are open from 7am to midnight seven days a week.
By the time we had finished we seriously needed to walk so we strolled up through the market and went in one or two shops.  Don't often go to Southampton so made a bit of a change.

Our doggie walks are still somewhat limited because of all the mud but we still get them out. This week Polly did her usual swim at Richmond Canine Hydrotherapy.

Polly on her way to swimming
Looking a bit apprehensive

Now she's showing off
We walked our dogs separately this week to give Peggy a chance to run without having to wait for the oldies to catch up.

That is all for another week, we will see what we come up with next time.

Byeee!

'Back to Broadway' touring musical and Donnys Stubbington (2nd visit)

Funny old week this week. Had a trip up to Reading last Sunday to see the touring show Back to Broadway. The main reason for going was as my friends daughter, Rachel was in it, but it was thoroughly worth going. Excellent show if you like musicals.Check out the website - as they are touring all over the UK. They performed 25 different songs from Les Miserables, Wicked to Mamma Mia. And Rachel was the best performer by far!

Rachel - on the left - stealing the show!

Been raining/very windy (in case you are hibernating and missed it..!) this week, so did not want to venture too far due to fallen trees, floods etc.(though nothing nearly as bad as the poor souls in Somerset, Surrey and the West Country).

Never seen the water reservoir on the farm so high

Tree blown down blocking my road!

Windy weather doesn't stop Pol and Peg chasing the deer

High tide/ storm effect on Hillhead beach huts

Beach huts at Hillhead moved by wind

Wind damaged pub sign at the Strawberry Tavern

We decided to visit Donnys  in Stubbington again. Went on Wednesday this week as I was working at the weekend. Unfortunately - not as good for breakfast as our previous visit. Last time we had waffles/pancakes, so both went for the 'village' breakfast this week.
2 'village' breakfasts. With very dry toast
I had a cinnamon latte (luke warm - Grrr) and Margaret had a white coffee (ok -but in a cup and saucer so quite small). £16.... to be honest it was not worth it.

The main food itself was ok, but the toast was cold and the butter solid. Some other customers had eggs benedict that looked good - but quite pricey.

Jake and Jessie have had a quiet week due to the weather, as they would drown in the puddles!
Jessie braving the elements all wrapped up

Best place during storms..

Too many sticks for Jake to chose from to chew
Mitzi has been busy guarding them from the scarey 90 mph winds...
Scarey Mitzi

Polly did a wonderful job convincing my great niece and great nephew (the middle one is fine) that dogs are not scarey. She is an old softie bless her.

Polly with Connor, Cari-Anne and Ciana

Peggy and I  braved the elements at Holly Hill Park during the week.
High lake level at Holly Hill

Bit too high for some bridges

Oops - hope no squashed ducks

The main paths were relatively fine, but the weather has definitely raised the water levels.. Ducks seemed happy enough.
Very loud 'new' waterfall

Hope you have all had a good week. Hope to venture further afield next weekend....keep warm and dry! x

The Harvester, Whiteley

This week we decided to eat locally so took ourselves up to Whiteley.  We decided to try the Harvester.  We have eaten in Harvesters before but not our local one.  We were there just after nine so for a while we had the place to ourselves.

They have quite an extensive menu which is all reasonably priced.

I chose the 'Simply Breakfast' which consisted of Bacon, sausage, beans and egg cooked as you wish. All their breakfasts come with a choice of potatoes.  I chose cubed which were delicious.  Jan had Bacon and Maple pancakes which looked lovely although she did say that they are like little scotch pancakes, not quite the same as you cook yourself, or get in a specialist pancake restaurant.  Also you get unlimited tea or coffee topped up as often as you like. Good value, we paid £12.26 all together.

Every picture tells a story.
The good thing about eating at Whiteley is that you can have a bit of a wander around afterwards.
It is still very, very wet underfoot for dog walking but we braved it and did one of our regular walks at the farm at Mill lane, Titchfield. We did about one and a half miles which isn't bad for our oldies.  Muddy in places and the lake was full to the brim but some nice views of the Abbey.

Jake and Jessie take home more than their share of mud, black legs and tummies.

Welcome home, I've been waiting ages for you.

That's it for this week, more next time............................Margaret x

Sprinkles Gelato

Bad Bad breakfast choice today - for the dentist and waistline......... but  yummy yummy for us!
Fancied pancakes today, so headed into Portswood to Sprinkles Gelato.

Front counter

seating
Got there about 0900, though it is open 0700 - Midnight. As its portrayed as an icecream parlour - not sure who would want an icecream at 0700! However, they have a breakfast menu,
healthier option (boringgg...!)
and an even more scrummy crepes
and waffles menu.
Glorious choice of  icecreams, and beautifully presented.

Margaret had the white chocolate waffle, with strawberries and a dollop of coffee icecream (included),
and I had the banoffee crepes with a dollop of honeycomb icecream (included),
with a white coffee each. £14.00 total. Bargain for what we got!

I had a banoffee gelato milkshake to take out, which kept me going all day..... You can have any sundae choice made into a milkshake Highly recommend a visit!

Walkies weather has been relatively miserable. More so for Jake and Jessie with their little legs, as it is so waterlogged in the field/woods everywhere.

Best stay indoors
Polly and Peggy manage more easily, though get through 2 towels a day drying them off post walkies.
typical wet field

Polly checking the badgers haven't drowned

Peg checking out the squirrel from indoors as too wet to go out and chase it
Flooding at Titchfield Haven (closed to walkers but we ignored the sign!)

Margaret and I topped off the unhealthy eating day by going to the cinema to see 12 Years a Slave. Raided the pick a mix sweets beforehand.... Good film, but quite slow going.... Because I saw Django Unchained I thought the slavery element wasn't portrayed as bad as it could be to get the message across in the film. Still worth seeing though.

See you all next week.....
